Respite and Post-Hospital Recovery

Short-term stays when a family caregiver needs a break, or when someone leaving the hospital needs a supported place to recover before returning home.

Not every stay is permanent. Some families need a safe place for a parent for two weeks while they travel or recover from their own surgery. Others are facing a hospital discharge and a parent who is not yet ready to go home alone. When a room is available, both Silvergate homes in Bonney Lake and Buckley welcome short-term residents.

Respite care for family caregivers

Caring for a parent or spouse at home is exhausting, and caregivers who never rest get sick themselves. A respite stay gives you a break while your loved one receives the same care as our long-term residents: meals, medications, help with bathing and dressing, supervision, and company. Many families use respite as a way to see whether an adult family home would be a good long-term fit.

Recovery after a hospital stay

After a fall, a stroke, a joint replacement, or an illness, many older adults are discharged with needs that a family cannot manage safely at home. A recovery stay bridges that gap.

  • Medication reconciliation and administration, so new prescriptions are taken correctly
  • Help with transfers and walking while strength returns, including gait belt and Hoyer lift assistance
  • Coordination with home health physical and occupational therapists, who come to the home
  • Nutritious meals and hydration, which matter more than most people realize after a hospital stay
  • An RN owner who notices early signs of trouble and contacts the physician before a readmission becomes necessary

For discharge planners and case managers

We can often complete an assessment and accept a resident within a few days of a referral. Send referrals to the Bonney Lake office by fax at (253) 447-6378 or call (253) 447-8544. The Bonney Lake home holds Medicaid contracts, including Expanded Community Services and Specialized Behavior Support; Silvergate at Buckley is currently private pay.

What a short-term stay costs

Short-term stays are billed at a daily rate that depends on the level of care needed, confirmed after our RN assessment. Because availability changes, please call to ask whether a room is open before making plans. If we are full, we will tell you promptly so you can look elsewhere without losing time.
